The monograph highlights the peculiarities of state-law influence on the society under the conditions of social relationship transformation. The work is dedicated to the problems of the country legal system harmonization; develop-ment tendencies and directions of the state economic functions improvement; ways of economic interests, state and society correlation; aspects of making legal regulation more efficient; overcoming legal disputes; guaranteeing the rule of law; developing the lawmaking process.

       Issues of the international legal guaranteeing the economic security and land privatization in Ukraine are thoroughly investigated. The problems of the legal impact on the sphere of intellectual property, housing law, property relationships, remuneration of labor, etc.

       The monograph is aimed at scientists, teachers, post graduate students, students of law educational establishments and all people willing to raise their awareness of state-law influence on the modern society.

Save Our Seeds

  Over the past four hundred years, four hundred and fifty types of plants and trees around the world have become extinct as a result of the combined effects of global warming, popu-lation growth, deforestation, flooding and the fact that deserts are advancing in some regions at a rate of nearly four miles a year. Scientists estimate a quarter of the world’s remaining 270,000 plant species will be under threat of extinction by 2050.

In 1997, in an attempt to try to prevent the loss of such precious resources, volunteers all over Britain began collecting seeds from Britain’s 1,400 species of wild plants, three hundred of which are already facing extinction. The seeds collected are now housed in the Millennium Seed Bank, which opened its doors in 2000. Run by the Royal Botanical Gardens department of the famous Kew Gardens in London, the bank is located in Sussex, about thirty-five miles outside the capital.

 The bank is expected to become the world’s biggest seed bank and, apart from preserving almost all the plant life in Britain, it also aims to have saved the seeds of more than 24,000 species of plant life, almost a tenth of the world’s flowering plants, in the next twenty years. If they are successful, the Millennium Seed Bank Project will be one of the largest international conservation projects ever undertaken.

The ability to communicate quickly and efficiently is a wonderful thing. However, as the 1999 Microsoft antitrust case has shown us, virtually anything sent by e-mail can be retrieved. Even companies that have nothing to hide might not want their various internal thought processes examined. A rule of thumb: in a crisis, don’t send e-mail unless you would feel comfortable with the information sent appearing on the front page of The New York Times. If court cases ensue from a crisis situation, e-mails can and will be subject to the legal discovery process.
