TRANSLATION

Śukadeva Gosvāmī said: While Akrūra was still offering prayers, the Supreme Lord Kṛṣṇa withdrew His form that He had revealed in the water, just as an actor winds up his performance.

COMMENTARY

In this chapter Kṛṣṇa goes to Mathurā and enchants the womenfolk. After killing the washerman, Kṛṣṇa awarded the cloth weaver and the garland maker named Sudāmā.

After showing His majestic Viṣṇu form to Akrūra in the Yamunā at Akrūra Ghat and receiving Akrūra’s prayers, Śrī Kṛṣṇa withdrew (samāharat) that vision just as an actor winds up his performance. Kṛṣṇa made that form disappear without asking Akrūra. This disregard for Akrūra is expressed by the use of the sixth case (tasya), which expresses informality, instead of the second case (tam).
