- You have crossed the illusory energy of Lord Viṣṇu, and because of this you have given up the demoniac mentality and have attained the position of an exalted devotee.
- O respectable one! Vṛtrāsura, who was completely able to subdue his enemy, took his iron club, whirled it around, and then threw it at Indra with his left hand.
- cukruśuḥ samaharṣayaḥ
- tadā ca khe dundubhayo vinedur
- vijvarā nirvṛtendriyāḥ
- strī-bhū-druma-jalair eno
- tayendraḥ smāsahat tāpaṁ
- tāvat triṇākaṁ nahuṣaḥ śaśāsa
- taṁ ca brahmarṣayo 'bhyetya

- su-durlabhaḥ praśāntātmā

- ity arthitaḥ sa bhagavān
- As the Kṛttikās, through Agni, had a child named Skanda, Kṛtadyuti, through Citraketu, became pregnant after eating remnants of food from the sacrifice.
- tanaye 'nudinaṁ pituḥ
- sapatnyāḥ putra-sampadā
- mumoha vibhraṣṭa-śiroruhāmbarā
- stana-dvayaṁ kuṅkuma-paṅka-maṇḍitaṁ
- tvaṁ tāta nārhasi ca māṁ kṛpaṇām anāthāṁ
- uttiṣṭha tāta ta ime śiśavo vayasyās

- Aṅgirā said: O King! I am the giver of the son to you who desired a son, and this is Nārada, a great sage, son of Lord Brahmā.

- jīvātman paśya bhadraṁ te
- paryaṭanti nareṣv evaṁ
- eṣa nityo 'vyayaḥ sūkṣma
The Story of Citraketu
|| 6.14.1 ||
śrī-parīkṣid uvāca
rajas-tamaḥ-svabhāvasya
brahman vṛtrasya pāpmanaḥ
nārāyaṇe bhagavati
katham āsīd dṛḍhā matiḥ
King Parīkṣit said: O brāhmaṇa! Since he was sinful, with a nature of rajas and tamas, how could Vṛtrāsura have firm attachment to Nārāyaṇa?
The Fourteenth Chapter describes how Citraketu, by the mercy of devotees, obtained a son whose birth caused happiness and whose death caused distress.
|| 6.14.2 ||
devānāṁ śuddha-sattvānām
ṛṣīṇāṁ cāmalātmanām
bhaktir mukunda-caraṇe
na prāyeṇopajāyate
Bhakti to the Lord’s lotus feet rarely develops even in the devatās with minds in sattva-guṇa and in pure sages.
Śuddha-sattvānām means in those with antaḥkaraṇas having sattva-guṇa. Jñāna develops on its own after purification of antaḥkaraṇa. This is not so with bhakti, since without association of devotees bhakti does not appear.
|| 6.14.3 ||
rajobhiḥ sama-saṅkhyātāḥ
pārthivair iha jantavaḥ
teṣāṁ ye kecanehante
śreyo vai manujādayaḥ
In this material world there are as many living entities as atoms. Among these living entities, a few are human beings or devatās, and among them, a few practice dharma.
Among them, some are humans, devatās or Gandharvas, but not all. And among those, some follow dharma.
|| 6.14.4 ||
prāyo mumukṣavas teṣāṁ
kecanaiva dvijottama
mumukṣūṇāṁ sahasreṣu
kaścin mucyeta sidhyati
O best of the brāhmaṇas! Out of those follow dharma, only a few desire liberation. Among many thousands who desire liberation, one person becomes a jivamukta and out of many such persons, only one attains the spiritual world.
Mucyeta means he becomes a jīvanmukta.
