- The Plea of Vṛtrāsura
- agre tiṣṭhata mātraṁ me

- tenaiva śatruṁ jahi viṣṇu-yantrito
- patir vidhatte puruṣasya śakra

- You have crossed the illusory energy of Lord Viṣṇu, and because of this you have given up the demoniac mentality and have attained the position of an exalted devotee.
- O respectable one! Vṛtrāsura, who was completely able to subdue his enemy, took his iron club, whirled it around, and then threw it at Indra with his left hand.
- cukruśuḥ samaharṣayaḥ
- tadā ca khe dundubhayo vinedur
- vijvarā nirvṛtendriyāḥ
- strī-bhū-druma-jalair eno
- tayendraḥ smāsahat tāpaṁ
- tāvat triṇākaṁ nahuṣaḥ śaśāsa
- taṁ ca brahmarṣayo 'bhyetya
- rajas-tamaḥ-svabhāvasya
- su-durlabhaḥ praśāntātmā
- vṛtras tu sa kathaṁ pāpaḥ
- cintā bandhyā-pater abhūt

- ity arthitaḥ sa bhagavān
- As the Kṛttikās, through Agni, had a child named Skanda, Kṛtadyuti, through Citraketu, became pregnant after eating remnants of food from the sacrifice.
- tanaye 'nudinaṁ pituḥ
- sapatnyāḥ putra-sampadā
mamottamaśloka-janeṣu sakhyaṁ
saṁsāra-cakre bhramataḥ sva-karmabhiḥ
tvan-māyayātmātmaja-dāra-geheṣv
āsakta-cittasya na nātha bhūyāt
Let me, wandering in the wheel of saṁsāra by my karmas, be attached to the devotees of the Lord. Let my mind not be attached to persons attached to body, children, wife, and house because of the influence of your external energy.
At that moment, Vṛtrāsura became humble. “Oh! How can such a low rascal as me attain such good fortune? Let me remain in this world!” He prays in this way in this verse. Let me have friendship with the devotees of the Lord, and let me not have friendship with persons attached to body, children, house and wife. I have not had association with your devotees, and thus I have experienced insurmountable sorrow.
Thus ends the commentary on the Eleventh Chapter of the Sixth Canto of the Bhāgavatam for the pleasure of the devotees, in accordance with the previous ācāryas.
Chapter Twelve
Indra Kills Vṛtrāsura
|| 6.12.1 ||
śrī-ṛṣir uvāca
evaṁ jihāsur nṛpa deham ājau
mṛtyuṁ varaṁ vijayān manyamānaḥ
śūlaṁ pragṛhyābhyapatat surendraṁ
yathā mahā-puruṣaṁ kaiṭabho 'psu
Śukadeva Gosvāmī said: O King! Desiring to give up his body, considering death in the battle preferable to victory, Vṛtrāsura took up his trident and attacked Lord Indra, just as Kaiṭabha had attacked the Lord when the universe was inundated.
The Twelfth Chapter describes how Indra, discouraged by Vṛtrāsura’s prowess, becomes enlightened by him and after praising him, kills him.
Vṛtrāsura prepared for battle again, thinking, “Bewildered about what to do, he will not kill me. Therefore, showing him my prowess, he will become determined and angry. He will then quickly kill me.” Apsu refers to the water of devastation.
