- Upon seeing this act of generous Śiva, the lord of the devatās, Bhavānī, Lord Brahmā, Lord Viṣṇu, and the people in general praised him.

- mūrtimatyaḥ saric-chreṣṭhā
- varuṇaḥ srajaṁ vaijayantīṁ
- nirantaraṁ candana-kuṅkumokṣitam

- Mohinī Bewilders the Demons
- sarvendriya-manaḥ-prītiṁ
- sakhyāny āhur anityāni
- Upon hearing the words of Mohinī, the chiefs of the demons, being foolish, immediately assented.
- saṁvīkṣya sammumuhur utsmita-vīkṣaṇena
- te pālayantaḥ samayam
- sudhayāplāvito 'patat
- yad yujyate 'su-vasu-karma-mano-vacobhir
- yuktāḥ karmaṇi yattāś ca
- hasty-aśva-ratha-pattīnāṁ
- tapatraiḥ sitāmalaiḥ
- akunir bhūtasantāpo. vajradaṁṣṭro virocanaḥ. hayagrīvaḥ śaṅkuśirāḥ. kapilo meghadundubhiḥ. tārakaś cakradṛk śumbho. niśumbho jambha utkalaḥ. ari&

- svapno yathā hi pratibodha āgate
- atho surāḥ pratyupalabdha-cetasaḥ
- I send ignorant thieves who want to ascend to Svarga or beyond and want to control Maharloka by creating illusions to planets lower than their previous residence.
- ity ākṣipya vibhuṁ vīro
- yantur dānava-sattamaḥ
- namuciḥ pañca-daśabhiḥ
- O King! Indra, using his thunderbolt, cut off the heads of Bala and Pāka while their relatives watched, and created fear.
- vajraḥ pratihato yataḥ
- mṛtyur naivārdra-śuṣkayoḥ
- bhavadbhir amṛtaṁ prāptaṁ
sālāvṛkāṇāṁ strīṇāṁ ca
svairiṇīnāṁ sura-dviṣaḥ
sakhyāny āhur anityāni
nūtnaṁ nūtnaṁ vicinvatām
O demons! Jackals and prostitutes are unsteady in their friendship and think of newer and newer friends every day. This is the opinion of learned scholars.
“Then what should we do?” Please listen to the conclusion. Sālavṛka means a monkey, jackal or dog according to Amara-koṣa.
|| 8.9.11 ||
śrī-śuka uvāca
iti te kṣvelitais tasyā
āśvasta-manaso 'surāḥ
jahasur bhāva-gambhīraṁ
daduś cāmṛta-bhājanam
Śukadeva Gosvāmī said: Their minds comforted by the joking words of Mohinī, the demons laughed in a mysterious manner, and delivered the container of nectar to her.
They were pacified by her joking (kṣevelitaiḥ). They laughed in such a way that their intentions could not be understood by the unintelligent (bhāva-gambhiram). They thought as follows. “O woman with all qualities! Are you testing us? We are not faithless and impure in heart. Take the pot of nectar. Divide it and give it to us. Or drink it. Or throw it somewhere else. Do as you please. Know that we have become yours, because of your good qualities.”

tato gṛhītvāmṛta-bhājanaṁ harir
babhāṣa īṣat-smita-śobhayā girā
yady abhyupetaṁ kva ca sādhv asādhu vā
kṛtaṁ mayā vo vibhaje sudhām imām
Thereafter, the Lord, having taken the container of nectar, spoke with slightly joking words. “If you accept whatever I may do, whether right or wrong, then I will divide the nectar.”
If you accept what I do, whether it is right or wrong, I will divide the nectar. I know my own ignorance. That is why I say this first.

ity abhivyāhṛtaṁ tasyā
ākarṇyāsura-puṅgavāḥ
apramāṇa-vidas tasyās
tat tathety anvamaṁsata
|
