All the devatās, along with the Prajāpatis and their descendants, blessed by Lakṣmī's glance and endowed with good behavior and qualities, became extremely happy.

nirudyogā gata-trapāḥ
yadā copekṣitā lakṣmyā
babhūvur daitya-dānavāḥ
O King! Because of being neglected by Lakṣmī, the demons became powerless, greedy, inactive and shameless.

athāsīd vāruṇī devī
kanyā kamala-locanā
asurā jagṛhus tāṁ vai
harer anumatena te
Next appeared Vāruṇī, the lotus-eyed goddess. With the permission of the Supreme Lord, the demons, headed by Bali Mahārāja, took possession of this young girl.
Vāruṇī means liquor which is the food of Varuṇa.

athodadher mathyamānāt
kāśyapair amṛtārthibhiḥ
udatiṣṭhan mahārāja
puruṣaḥ paramādbhutaḥ
O King! Thereafter, while the sons of Kaśyapa, both demons and devatās, were engaged in churning the ocean of milk, a very wonderful male person appeared.

dīrgha-pīvara-dor-daṇḍaḥ
kambu-grīvo 'ruṇekṣaṇaḥ
śyāmalas taruṇaḥ sragvī
sarvābharaṇa-bhūṣitaḥ
His arms were long, thick and strong; his neck resembled a conch; his eyes were reddish; and his complexion was blackish. He was very young, wearing a garland and decorated with all types of ornaments.

pīta-vāsā mahoraskaḥ
sumṛṣṭa-maṇi-kuṇḍalaḥ
snigdha-kuñcita-keśānta-
subhagaḥ siṁha-vikramaḥ
amṛtāpūrṇa-kalasaṁ
bibhrad valaya-bhūṣitaḥ
He was dressed in yellow garments and wore brightly polished jeweled earrings. He had shining, curled locks of hair, and his chest was very broad. Brave as a lion, he was decorated with bangles. In his hand he carried a pot filled with nectar.

sa vai bhagavataḥ sākṣād
viṣṇor aṁśāṁśa-sambhavaḥ
dhanvantarir iti khyāta
