I. Read the text and say whether the statements are true or false.

About Dolphins

The first recorded contacts between man and dolphin may be those given by Aristotle as far back as the fourth century В.С. He also gave a description of the dolphin's anatomy and behaviour. But it was only in our time that serious research in this field began.

Now nobody doubts that dolphins are among the most quick-brained animals. Many of their ways and habits towards man are truly fantastic. Armed with eighty-eight teeth, the dolphin has never attacked man. History does not know a single case, which would disprove this statement. On the contrary, in several wonderful cases dolphins came to the rescue of people at sea.

The dolphin is the top performer among swimmers. Cases are known where dolphins overtook high-speed ships making up to 30 knots. What is the secret of such a speed? Can its body shape account for this? It is true; the body of the dolphin is an excellent example of what nature can do when it seeks perfection. The dolphin has a long body free from any projection. It is excellently adapted to water. It is symmetrical in every­thing, except for the head.
