Listen to Ernie Rea discussing the pros and cons of interfaith marriage with Asad Zaman, an Imam for over 20 years who leads the Friday prayers at several mosques across Manchester; Dr Jonathan Romain, a Reform Rabbi who has written extensively on interfaith marriage; and Rosalind Birtwistle, Co-Founder of the Interfaith Marriage Network, who is a Christian married to a Jew. Take notes on what the speakers say about the following:

2. Listen to the story of a young Sikh woman and her husband about their experience of having an interfaith wedding. Say whether the statements are true or false. Correct the false ones.

1. Rubi, a young Sikh woman, was prepared to get married to her Hindu fiancé.

2. In the morning on her wedding day they got a call saying that wedding is going to be cancelled because her clothes were not appropriate for the Sikh wedding.

3. The objections to her getting married in Gurdwara were that the authorities of the Gurdwara hadn’t agreed to that wedding.

4. Interfaith marriages in Gurdwaras are quite rare.

5. The priest had to lock himself in the room upstairs at the top of the Gurdwara because the Sikh militants were going to kill him.

6. After the police arrived and created the cordon for them they managed to have their wedding in Gurdwara.

7. When their family and friends turned up to the temple, the militants told them to get out of there in a very rude manner.

8. In spite of that dreadful instance, she keeps going to the temple every week because the temple is a place of spiritual worship where she can find peace and comfort.

9. According to Sikh Council of UK marrying people of other faith is not acceptable.
