A ship is like a building, and it has many similar structures. However, those structures have different names on a ship. For example, buildings have hallways, but ships have passageways. Floors and ceilings are called decks and overheads. Ladders go from deck to deck instead of stairs. A room on a ship is a compartment, and walls are partitions. And the restroom is known as the head.

Of course, some ship structures have no similar structures on land. An opening between decks is called a hatch. Bulkheads are like walls and partitions. But bulkheads can stop flooding. That’s because bulkheads have watertight doors.
