9. What are some specific media literacy skills?

Media literacy still requires some specific skills like:

- The ability and willingness to make an effort to understand content, to pay attention, and to filter out noise.

- An understanding of and respect for the power of media messages.

- The ability to distinguish emotional from reasoned reactions when responding to content and to act accordingly.

- Development of heightened expectations of media content.

- A knowledge of genre conventions and the ability to recognize when they are being mixed.

- The ability to think critically about media messages, no matter how credible their sources.

- A knowledge of the internal language of various media and the ability to under- stand its effects, no matter how complex.

10. What is the difference between genres and production conventions? What do these have to do with media literacy?

Genre – is the categories of expression within the different media. For example: documentary, horror movie, evening news entertainment magazine
Genre refers to the categories of expression within the different media and convention is each genre is characterized by certain distinctive, standardized style elements. The more genres there are the most likely our media literacy will improve.

QUESTIONS FOR CRITICAL THINKING AND DISCUSSION Who were your childhood heroes and heroines? Why did you choose them? What cultural lessons did you learn from them?

Cartoons are the most vivid memory of my childhood. In my childhood I was able to watch various colorful cartoons for hours. Cartoons and animated movies is the branch of movies for children, which have very bright images, colors and music. Originally they used to be drawn by artists, however, almost all modern cartoons are created with the help of computer animation. Cartoons can teach, develop, inform and entertain children.

As for me, I watched both Soviet cartoons and Disney cartoons, but most of all I liked Disney cartoons. So tastes differ and everyone has own choice.I prefer historical films and cartoons. So I would like to tell about amazing cartoon: “Anastasia”(1997). This cartoon is a loose adaptation of the legend of Grand Duchess Anastasia Nikolaevna of Russia, which claims that she escaped the execution of her family.
Anastasia Romanova is the daughter of the last Russian Emperor Nicholas II, who was killed by the sinister Rasputin. She manages to escape, get together with her grandmother to the crowded train station. But at the moment of boarding a moving train, she slips, lets go of her grandmother's hand, falls and hits her head.Ten years pass. Anastasia grew up in an orphanage all these years, not remembering anything about herself and the tragic history of her childhood. The girl calls herself Anya. The only thing that connects her to the past is a pendant with the inscription "See you in Paris". She wants to go to Paris to find her relatives.At the end of cartoon, Anastasia reunited with her granny and as a result we see a happy ending.

In fact, this is a very touching story that can happen to everyone. Because of some kind of evil, to separate two loving souls ... What terrible twists of fate Anastasia experienced, and how hard it was for her grandmother. I want to say that I admire Anastasia. She is a brave, clever, kind and beautiful girl. She overcame all difficulties. She did not give up and went on at the call of her heart. After watching this cartoon, I want to believe that dreams come true. That there is something good on earth that unites loving souls into one whole. It seems to me that this cartoon teaches us to believe in something good and magical.
