Do not criticize past employers
5. Do not lie
You may be tempted to emphasize your experience and achievements even to a point of stretching the truth. DO NOT do that. Not only is your potential employer sometimes able to verify your statements, but also you run the risk that the truth becomes known during the period of your employment. It is not a fault to know something. We learn all the time. What is wanted of an
employee is the enthusiasm and willingness to learn new things. Furthermore, sometimes your employer may prefer to teach you the procedures and policies of the company from scratch, not running the risk that you are overly influenced by those from your former place of employment.
One of the things you must remember NEVER to do is to criticize your past employers. This does not look good in a petitioner. If you left your former company as a result of some negative event, still attempt to present it in a good light. First of all, this will convince your interviewer of your loyalty: companies tend to value employees who would not besmear the good name of an enterprise for personal reasons. What is more, if you criticize the former place of employment, your interviewer may think you would do the same about the present company when you leave it in the future. Second of all, even if you bear a grudge against your former employer, make the effort of stressing the experience you drew from the situation in question. It is important to learn positive things from negative situations. If you do this, it may also convince your employer that you are ready to draw experience even from personally difficult conditions and that you are not vindictive but that your approach to such situations is constructive and future-oriented.
