JOB INTERVIEW (PART 1)
10 things to do during a job interview
1. Manage your time efficiently
This may seem a mysterious piece of advice, but let’s analyze it. Time management is an important ability per se, and it is especially important in a job interview context. First of all, you don’t want to be late, as this would make a VERY bad impression on the employer.
It is a good idea to check the whereabouts of the company or the place where the interview is to take place beforehand, possibly even check the route. Arrive 10- 15 minutes before the interview to collect your thoughts and take a few deep breaths.
2. Know the company
It would be worthwhile to gather all possible information about the company – definitely visit their web site, research its major activities, products, or even competition. If possible, try also to learn the name of the interviewer and his/her title.
3. Have a copy of your CV ready
You must have sent your CV to the company already, but it is a good idea to have a spare copy with you at the interview. This is proof that you take the interview seriously and that you are prepared.
4. Develop relations with the interviewer
A job interview is an interpersonal affair. You really need to develop a rapport with the interviewer. Shake hands firmly but not with overdue force. Watch your
non-verbal communications, at all times be aware of your body language, and maintain eye contact. Smile at the interviewer and remember that your body posture must be open.
5. Follow the interviewer
You are the petitioner, so don’t try and dominate the interview. Your job is to answer the questions, not to ask them. It is all right though if you ask for clarification in case you haven’t understood the question.
