Ducks are parents who follow a hierarchical strategy. They make all decisions in the family.
Elephants are parents who adhere to a democratic strategy. They take care of children, but treat them like their friends and allow children to participate in decision-making (often children become decision-makers).
The elephant strategy is new to humanity. Until the second half of the 20th century, it was practically not observed. However, now more than half of American families adhere to this strategy and its popularity is growing rapidly.
The transition to this strategy is due to the fact that the values ​​and goals of modern people have changed. Social and patriotic values ​​gave way to personal and family values.
Caring for family and children has become more important than pragmatism and concern for the welfare of the state.
This affects the effectiveness of advertising campaigns, social advertising, and even election results. In all these cases, it has become more profitable to turn to family values ​​and the well-being of children, rather than to benefit themselves and the state.
The dark side of these changes is that, firstly, children who are incompetent in these matters begin to have a great influence on solving important issues, and secondly, that children bear a great responsibility that causes them stress.
The research data is presented, according to which in 2000 children were interested in entertainment, gifts, studies and relationships with friends and parents, and in 2014 children of the same age were worried about the future of mankind, quarrels between parents, school shooting, war and death.
In any case, according to the speaker, the strategy of “elephants” will inevitably win in the future.
