Higher education and teacher training in Great Britain

When you think about higher education in UK, you will probably think of an elite university in the “Oxbridge” tradition, as popularized in, for example, the screen adaptions of the novel Brides Head Revisited: Young men in white summer suits are strolling leisurely over green meadows between the elegant buildings of their alma mater…

While the university of Oxford and the university of Cambridge still play an influential role in higher education in UK, there is, of course, more than one kind of university. Indeed, any university in the UK belongs to one of the following six categories.

1. Ancient universities like Oxford, St. Andrew’s or Dublin, was founded and chartered between the 12th and the 18th centuries.

2. About half a dozen institutions such as the university of London, go back to the 19th century.

3. In the last 100 years, higher education in the UK’s industrial cities led to the foundation of the “redbrick universities”, usually chartered before World War one.

4. A “plate-glass university” was established to accommodate the rising student population of the 1960s.

5. The “new university” of the 1990s, is often a former polytechnic that once offered vocational training and then became a full university, frequently with a technical focus.

6. Last but not least, the “Open University” in the UK is the country’s most important long-distance learning institute.

Illness and their treatment

Nowadays everyone has illness. It can be from simply flu to deathly illness. I’m going to tell about some types of illness and their symptoms then their treatment.

Autism is characterized by impairments in social skills, communication, and restricted and repetitive behavior such as hand flapping and an insistence on sameness. Many children also have unusual sensory responses, and may shy away from bright lights or may not notice if their clothes are rough and twisted. Treatment of autism. There is no cure for autism spectrum disorders. However, there are behavioral and educational therapies that may help reduce symptoms. And early diagnosis is key to connecting children with autism to treatment.

Bad breath, or halitosis, is familiar to many people. Although precise epidemiological data are missing, some studies have suggested that bad breath may rank only behind dental cavities and gum disease as the most frequent reasons for visits to the dentist. Treatments for bad breath usually involve either improving oral hygiene or targeting the underlying health problems.

Leukemia is cancer of white blood cells that starts in the bone marrow, the soft material in the center of bones that makes white blood cells, red blood cells and platelets. Symptoms of leukemia: chills, pale skin, unexplained bruises, joint or bone aches, swollen lymph nodes. Treatment for leukemia depends on the type of leukemia and other factors such as the patient’s age, white blood cell count and genetics of the cancer.
