Fun Unicorn Facts Children often have many questions about the legendary unicorn, including “Can unicorns fly?” Share this list of unicorn facts with your little ones to pique their imagination and encourage imaginative play. 1. Unicorns live in groups of four or five that make up a joyous family. The head of the family is an elder unicorn who is hundreds of years old. Other family members include a loving couple and one or two young unicorns. 2. Unicorn families spend their lives alone living in peace deep in the forest. 3. When two unicorn families meet, they express great joy and travel together for weeks before they part and go their separate ways. 4. The unicorn may eat grass and hay, but it really doesn’t need to eat at all. It absorbs its energy from the sun, probably through the horn. 5. Unicorns can be any color, from jet-black and brown to dazzling gold, brilliant red or pure white. 6. Anyone who touches a pure white unicorn will find happiness and joy for his entire life. 7. The unicorn’s eyes are sky blue or purple. 8. Unicorns are earthbound and do not have wings. If a unicorn and a Pegasus (a flying horse) mate, the babies may become flying unicorns. Weird Facts about Unicorn This one is probably the most intriguing fact we’ve seen… We do not recommend killing or harming unicorns, but hunting for them can be a lot of fun. To do that you will need an official “Unicorn Hunting License”. You can get your own Unicorn Hunting License for free at the Lake Superior University. This license is good for a lifetime (and beyond) and can be used anywhere on earth. Unicorn horns were used in pharmacies in the U.K. back in the 1700’s. We do not know what they cured, but we’re suspecting the ailments, as well as their remedy was quite spectacular.
Unicorn Mythology
If the mention of unicorns conjures up images of radiant white horses with a flowing manes and a single horn in the middle of the forehead, you may be surprised to learn that that is only one version of this mythical creature. The legendary unicorn from some cultures bears little resemblance to the popular fairytale version depicted in children’s stories. The unicorn called Qilin has held a place in ancient Chinese mythology since the time of Confucius. It is believed to be one of the nine mythic monsters who were sons of a dragon with the ability to tell good from evil. This unicorn has the head of a dragon, blue and green scaly skin, cloven hooves and the tail of a bear. This unicorn often had more than one horn. It is believed to live for 2000 years or more.
