Review

Today unemployment is one of the important problems in the world. The countries such as Britain and Russia also face with it. Nowadays the Great Britain is a prosperous country. She remains the top  ranks of the world economies and British wage rates remain among the highest in the world. A British couple earn almost twice that of a couple from Greece. Today employment in Britain is undergoing substantial changes which influence both the employed people and the  unemployed. By the early 1980s there were 3 million unemployed people in Great Britain. In recent years unemployment has declined but remains at about 2 million. The British people feel less confident about their future prospects concerning secure employment and increasing prosperity. Britain will soon become a “30:30:40 society”, i.e. that 30% of people are disadvantaged, 30% are insecure and only 40% are privileged.

Today Russia is developing country, which has different resources. But Russia as other countries face a problem of unemployment. There are about 6 million of unemployed people in Russia and the number of them are increasing everyday. Most of them are young and male. They can’t find an appropriate variant of job due to overstated requirements of companies. This problem can be resolved by the government and companies cooperation.

2) Social costs of the progress

Key words: to be lay off, unsuccessfully tried, receive no income, unemployment insurance, earning less, pressure become too heavy, lost the temper, retraining programs, , more useful to the young.

Review:

Today the problem of scientific and technical progress is very important, but people hardly think about social costs of the scientific and technical. A lot of working people can become unemployed due to the developing some technical systems. For example, the introduction of computer typesetting spelled many Linotype and other machine operators. Only a few of them were able to find a normal job due to the retraining programs. Retraining skill is more useful to the young people.
