When I was at school I just wasn’t interested. I didn’t 1) pay attention to the teachers and I was really bad at learning things by 2) heart. I always got low
3) marks and there was no way to go on to 4) further education. In the last year, I
5) failed all my exams, so I left school and got a job as a waitress. It was hard work, but I liked earning my own money and after a couple of years I decided to take a 6) course in catering at a local college. I really enjoyed it and found that for the first time I did really well.

So at the end of the course I 7) applied for a place at university to study hotel management. I was so pleased when I got a place – and even more pleased when I managed to get a 8) grant! Five years later and here I am, running my own hotel!
