MUKUNDA - MALA

This melodious composition of the great Vaishnava saint. Raja Kulashekhar Azhwar, is one of the finest in Devotional literature. The love of God that demands nothing in return but is a fulfillment in itself is the sublime content. In the Love of the Higher, our bondage to the 'lower' which breeds a host of ills like fear, passion, sorrow, and insult, is easily destroyed. The rhyme, poetic felicity, and yet simplicity of language make it a work of near incomparable degree. It helps infuse all with the true spirit of Devotion.

In forty-five stanzas, the devotee's heart cries out to Lord Shri Krishna, praying for His infinite grace that alone can lift the devotee from the rut of worldliness . Many topics of importance are strung together in this classical hymn that is sung in thousands of homes with great fervor even today. These delightful verses of practical sadhana for the spiritual seeker discuss such subjects as contemplation on the divine form of the Lord, singing the glory of the divine name of the Lord, reminding one's own mind about the infallible power of submission to the Lord, very persuasive advice to take to the path of pevotion without delay, and more.

Devotion is the most suitable path for this Kali Yuga and Mukunda Mala is a work that sets before us the essentials of the spirit and practice of true Devotion in a clear and appealing manner.
