BY PLANE

The flight time from London to Edinburgh is just under an hour.

The story begins in Trafalgar Square , central London , at thirty past seven.

 The first stop is Heathrow Airport by taxi for the nine o’clock plane.

The traffic is not bad and we reach Heathrow in forty-five minutes.

We complete check-in and security checks thirty minutes past eight a.m.

A loudspeaker announces a delay of ten minutes. It is time for coffee.

But at a quarter past nine our Boeing 757   is  leaving the gate.

At twenty  past nine we are in the air, and stewardess are trying to serve a quick, free breakfast to a full plane.

The plane lands at ten past ten and ten minutes later we are in the airport terminal.

 There is coach outside, and we reach the centre of Edinburgh in half an hour.

It is a short walk to the Scott Monument in Princes Street.

It is a quarter past eleven.

BY TRAIN

We leave the monument and walk around the corner to Waverley Station to catch the Royal Scot.

Our first class carriage is nearly empty.

The train leaves the platform  at exactly thirty past eleven and hurries south through beautiful countryside.

 Lunch is excellent, but it costs a lot.

 We reach King’s Cross at ten to four and take a taxi to Trafalgar Square.

 Arriving at six minutes past four.
